An empty home hides nothing. With the furniture gone, every mark on a baseboard, every ring inside a cupboard and every scuff behind a fridge is suddenly in plain sight — and if there's an inspection at the end of a tenancy, that's exactly what's being looked at.
The visible surfaces are the easy part. Floors, counters, sinks and windows get cleaned because you can see them. The places that decide a move-out clean are the ones that were behind something until last week.
Inside cupboards, drawers and closets. Once the shelves are empty, the crumbs, sticky rings and dust in the corners are the first thing anyone opening a door will see. Every one gets wiped out, top shelf included.
Appliances, inside and out. The oven, the fridge, the microwave — and the sides and floor underneath them, which have usually been collecting since the appliance was installed. Bathrooms get the same treatment: behind the toilet, the underside of the seat, the tracks of a shower door.
Then the details that read as neglect if they're skipped: baseboards and trim all the way round, door frames and handles, light switches and their surrounds, and the tops of doors and window frames. None of it takes long. All of it is noticed when it hasn't been done.
The other half of the job is timing. A move-out clean happens in a narrow window — after the last box leaves and before the walk-through or the next tenant. Booking it around a hand-over date rather than fitting it in wherever there's a slot is most of what makes it work.
